Inspired by the first time I heard my own work described as lonely. That comment stayed with me longer than I expected, and made me think seriously about why I keep painting these scenes at all. It led me to realise I'm drawn to the stillness, the emptiness, the quiet just before or after anyone arrives, not the absence of people, but the moment around them. I've always preferred being near water rather than in it. This is how that preference looks, painted.
