Before I painted Palm Springs, I painted birds. Years later, prompted by requests to bring them back, I combined the two, which became the exhibition Aussies Abroad. The birds have stayed in my work ever since, carrying a sense of character and storytelling that the architecture alone doesn't offer. This piece is where those two, once-separate directions in my practice finally met
